Head Coach
Kyle Spencer was named head coach of the NC State men’s tennis program in June of 2017. Spencer, a former Olympian and All-American, came to the Wolfpack after spending more than four seasons as an assistant coach at Southern Methodist University (SMU), while also having previous ACC head coaching experience at Maryland. Spencer also served as an assistant for two programs (USC, Baylor) that reached the Final Four. The 2025 season was the most successful under Spencer with numerous accolades across the board. The squad finished the season ranked No. 7 by ITA, topping the best season-ending ranking in program history set in 2022. A 22-7 overall record secured the most wins in a season by the Pack since 2007, as well as a 12-1 conference mark set the new program record for most ACC wins in a season. Early in the dual season, an upset on the road led to the program's second-ever berth to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships, both appearances being under Spencer. During the regular season, the team reached an all-time ITA ranking of No. 4 on April 1. The Pack finished off the season in the NCAA Super Regional, the program's third-ever appearance in the Sweet 16 and second with Spencer at the helm. Closing out the season ranked in the top 10 of doubles rankings, senior duo Braden Shick and Fons Van Sambeek earned All-America honors to become the 10th and 11th All-Americans in program history. Assistant Coach/Recruiting Coordinator
Cris James joined the NC State men's tennis coaching staff in July of 2017 as an assistant coach. James also holds the role of recruiting coordinator for the team. In 2024, he was named the Carolina Regional ITA Assistant Coach of the Year. Formerly the head men’s tennis coach at Illinois State from 2007-13, James came to Raleigh after spending four seasons as a second assistant coach at Notre Dame. James was a crucial leader in the most successful 2025 season that led to the program's third NCAA Super Regional appearance, two All-Americans, a 22 win season, new program record for most conference wins (12), and the program's second-ever ITA National Team Indoors appearance. In the fall he helped coach Martin Borisiouk, Braden Shick, and Luca Staeheli at the 2024 NCAA Singles Championship, marking the most players in a season to represent the Pack at that tournament. In 2021-22, he helped six members of the squad to double-digit-win seasons and assisted the squad to a 20-win season. The Pack made a run to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament after hosting a regional site for the first time under head coach Kyle Spencer. During the 2020-21 season, James was able to assisted the Pack to its third consecutive NCAA berth for the men's tennis team. NC State finished out the regular season in the ITA Rankings at No. 25 with the assistance of James. James helped head coach Kyle Spencer lead the team to one of its most successful seasons in program history with a historic 2019 season.

Assistant Coach
After spending the 2022-23 season as a volunteer coach, Dennis Smith was elevated to a full time assistant. He has now been a full-time member of the Pack as an assistant coach for three seasons, beginning in 2023-24. He played a vital role in coaching the 2024-25 squad to one of the best seasons in program history that resulted in a NCAA Sweet 16 appearance, two All-Americans, a 22 win season, a new program record for most conference wins (12), and the program's second-ever ITA National Team Indoors appearance. Smith was the lead coach for the doubles team of Joe Wayand and Rafa Izquierdo Luque, guiding the duo to the ITA Regional Championship in the fall and an NCAA Doubles at-large invitation in the spring during the 2023-24 season. Under Smith’s watch, Wayand and Izquierdo Luque advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals, earning All-American accolades. Smith, a Raleigh native, graduated from NC State in 2020 with a degree in business administration.

Athletics Mental Health Clinician/Sports Psychologist
Martika Hubbard is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who specializes in trauma work, relationships, and family dynamics. Martika graduated with her B.A. in Psychology with minors in Health Studies, Gender Studies, and Sociology from Monmouth University where she was also a division-1 soccer player. Martika then went on to earn her M.A. in Marital and Family Therapy from the University of San Diego. Martika specifically chose this route and school because it provided a bio-psycho-social-spiritual lens to looking at the various mental health challenges that we face. Martika began her professional work with children, adolescents, and families in community mental health clinics. She found herself drawn mostly to the older adolescents in the transitional age groups and decided to pursue working in the college counseling center environment. Martika spent time at Coastal Carolina University working to create a relationship between the counseling center and athletics as she saw the unique need of student-athletes having been one herself. Martika is excited to work more with teams and individual student-athletes here at NCSU. Outside of work, Martika enjoys golfing, spin classes, watching reality television and spending time with her cat, Maverick. Director for Compliance (Men's Soccer, Gymnastics, Women's Tennis, Men's Tennis)
Paige Timberlake joined NC State Athletics in December 2022 as an Administrative Support Specialist and transitioned to the Assistant Director of Compliance in January 2024. In this role, she provides full compliance support for various teams, from bylaw 10 through bylaw 17. Timberlake came to NC State after spending a year working at the Arizona Golf Association where she helped organize and conduct amateur golf tournaments and USGA Qualifiers throughout the state of Arizona. Prior to her time at the Arizona Golf Association, Timberlake was an intern for the UGA Athletic Association where she helped with game day operations for every sport at UGA from 2020-2021. Timberlake also spent time as an administrative intern with the Clemson University Athletic Department from 2016-2019 where she supported the following teams: men's and women's golf, men's and women's soccer, and baseball. Timberlake earned her B.S. in Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Management from Clemson University in 2019 and earned her M.S. in Sport Management and Policy from the University of Georgia in 2021. A native of Zebulon, NC, Timberlake now resides in Raleigh and enjoys traveling, spending time with her family and friends, and supporting the Wolfpack!

Assistant Athletics Communications Director (m. soccer / wrestling / m. tennis)
Rachel Miller joined the Wolfpack as an Assistant Director of Communications in July 2024 and serves as the primary contact for the men's soccer, wrestling and men's tennis programs. In her time since joining as a full-time staff member, she has led social media and communications efforts for men's soccer during its NCAA Sweet Sixteen berth in 2024 and first-ever National Championship feature in 2025 which led to the program's first-ever No. 1 overall pick in the MLS Draft, wrestling's two individual national champions, five All-Americans, and three individual ACC Champions, and men's tennis' third-ever NCAA Super Regional berth in 2024 and three All-Americans. The native of Jackson Springs, N.C., graduated from NC State in May of 2024 with her Bachelor of Science in Sport Management and a minor in Business Administration. She was heavily involved with the athletics communications department while completing her undergraduate degree. Her junior year (2022-23) she served as the secondary contact for women's basketball and primary contact for women's tennis and her senior year (2023-24) she remained the secondary contact for women's basketball and became the primary contact for wrestling. As a student intern she gained experience across several sports at big name events, covering women's tennis when they won their first-ever ACC Championship in Cary, N.C., and advanced to the NCAA Championship Finals in Orlando.
