Head Coach
Amber Minton, who attended the University of Tennessee at Martin and a former Skyhawk assistant cheerleading coach, was named the head cheer coach on June 8, 2020. In addition to her duties with the cheer squad, she also has served as UT Martin's STUNT head coach since the program's inception in 2023. Minton oversaw the introduction of Skyhawk STUNT as the sport was introduced as the school's newest athletic program in June 2021 but NCAA legislation wasn't approved as an emerging sport at the Division I level until January 2024. UT Martin became the first STUNT program in the state of Tennessee, posting a 6-2 record in an eight-game exhibition slate. Following a highly successful trial run of exhibitions in 2023 while awaiting NCAA certification, the inaugural season of Skyhawk STUNT took place in 2024. UT Martin finished third nationally in the NCAA Division I ranks, falling only one game shy of playing for the national championship. Overall, the Skyhawks achieved five victories - including the program's first-ever postseason win on Day 1 of the NCAA Division I National Championship event held in Lexington, Ky. Last season, UT Martin managed its second consecutive top-four national finish in as many years. The Skyhawks went 10-8 overall - doubling their win total from the inaugural 2024 campaign - and collected a 5-2 mark in Mid America West Conference play, earning the No. 3 seed in the Division I National Championship tournament. The season featured a pair of lengthy winni

Assistant Coach
Skyhawk alum Mindy Halverson brings 25 plus years of cheer experience as a coach and choreographer to the University of Tennessee at Martin coaching staff. Halverson was brought on by head coach and longtime friend Amber Minton in December 2020 to be the Skyhawks’ assistant cheer coach. Halverson later took on the role as assistant STUNT coach as UT Martin became the first university in Tennessee to add STUNT in June 2021. After taking time to build their roster and study the sport of STUNT, UT Martin posted a 6-2 record in its first season of exhibition games in 2023. NCAA legislation approved STUNT as a Division I level emerging sport in January 2024. That year, UT Martin finished third nationally in the NCAA Division I ranks. The Skyhawks finished the 2025 season in fourth place after another Nationals appearance. The STUNT program continues to grow under Minton and Halverson’s guidance as they have more than doubled their roster since 2021. Halverson plays a pivotal role in recruiting student-athletes of all ability levels based on their strengths of stunting and/or tumbling. Halverson, who first met Minton when they were both students at UT Martin, is a 2007 graduate with a bachelor’s degree in education, focused on grades K-8. Along with her coaching career, she teaches at Martin Elementary School. Originally from South Fulton, Tenn., she resides in Martin with her husband Steve and two daughters.
