Colin McGuire enters his first season as Air Force lacrosse's new assistant coach in 2026. McGuire joins the Falcons following three highly successful seasons at the University of Richmond, where he served as an assistant coach overseeing all aspects of the Spider offense. In 2025, Richmond posted a program-best 14–3 record, an undefeated 5–0 mark in Atlantic 10 play and captured its first-ever A-10 regular season title along with a second conference tournament championship in three years. The Spiders earned their first NCAA Tournament victory—an upset over No. 8 North Carolina—and climbed as high as No. 5 in the national rankings. During his Richmond tenure, McGuire's offenses consistently ranked among the nation's best. In 2025, the Spiders finished second nationally in scoring margin, eighth in clearing percentage, ninth in scoring offense, and 11th in points per game. He helped develop multiple All-Americans, including Aidan O'Neil, Max Merklinger, and Joe Sheridan. In 2024, McGuire's offense set Richmond program records for shots (671) and goals (218) while ranking among the top-10 nationally in shot percentage, scoring margin, and points per game. He guided Dalton Young and Lance Madonna to back-to-back Atlantic 10 Offensive Player and Midfielder of the Year honors, with Young signing to play professionally in the Premier Lacrosse League. Offensive Assistant and Goalie Coach
Doug Murray enters his fourth season as assistant coach, seventh overall at Air Force in 2025. Murray joined the staff after serving two seasons as the Falcons’ volunteer assistant coach. Since joining the Falcons' staff, Murray has helped guide Air Force to a share of the regular season ASUN title in 2024, three top-three finishes with three conference tournament appearances, highlighted by a visit to the ASUN Championship against top-seed Utah in 2023. Murray has had a hand in 29 all-conference selections highlighted by conference Defensive Player of the Year in Brandon Jones (2019) and Freshman of the Year in Turner Ashby (2024). Murray's efforts also helped Air Force to their first victory over legendary head coach Bill Tierney’s Denver Pioneers in 2023, marking Tierney’s first-ever loss to Air Force. In his inaugural year with the Air Force staff, Murray helped the 2019 Falcons back to their winning ways, coaching goalies and man down defense while assisting with the overall defense. Air Force’s 2019 defense was No. 1 in the nation in goals against average, a mark that garnered NCAA D1 statistical champion status. Director of Sport Performance Psychology
Dr. Dillon L. Small is the Director of Sport Performance Psychology and a licensed clinical psychologist. Prior to this role, Dr. Small served as the Chief of Psychological Health for the Air Force Academy Cadet Wing, where he maintained programmatic oversight for a team of embedded mental performance experts that work directly with cadets to ensure high-performance in academics, athletics, and leadership. Dr. Small commissioned into the USAF in 2012 after acceptance into the Health Professions Scholarship program. Following his initial assignment and successful completion of the Clinical Psychology residency at Wright Patterson Medical Center, he was awarded his Doctor of Clinical Psychology from Biola University. He also holds Master's Degrees in Clinical Psychology and Organizational Communication. His research has focused on identification of mindfulness-based practices as psychological prophylaxis against military stress and best practices for embedded performance-focused mental health care. Dr. Small has worked with special operators, elite athletes, and rated air crew on multiple air frames, from C-17s to F-16s and F-35s. He is a Distinguished Graduate of Squadron Officer School (2016) and was recently awarded the "USAFA Medical Service Civilian Enterprise Leadership Excellence Award." Scott Popelar, a fixture in the Colorado lacrosse community for 20+ years, rejoins the Air Force lacrosse staff as an assistant coach for his third year in 2025. Prior to joining the Academy, Popelar served as assistant coach and defensive coordinator for the Colorado College men’s lacrosse program since 2010. Since joining the Falcons, Popelar has assisted Air Force in an a share of the regular season conference title, a visit to the ASUN Tournament championship and three league tournament appearances. During Popelar's ten seasons with Colorado College, the Tigers have posted a combined 115-41 record, good for a 74% winning percentage. The defense has limited opponents to a 8.04 goals-against average during that time, and the Tigers have made seven NCAA Tournament appearances, while receiving national and regional All-American honors along the way. Prior to joining the CC staff, Popelar served as an assistant coach at Kent Denver School, coaching the close defense and middies while helping coordinate the overall team defense. He helped lead the Sun Devils to the Colorado state championship in 2008, the state finals in 2011 and the semifinals in 2010, as well as quarterfinal appearances in 2009 and 2012. In 2007, Popelar was an assistant coach with state champion Fort Collins Unified High School.
