Richard and Kitzia Goodman Head Coach
David Carle is in his eighth season as the Richard and Kitzia Goodman Hockey Head Coach in 2025-26 after being named to the position on May 25, 2018. The ninth head coach in program history, Carle has led the Pioneers to the 2022 and 2024 NCAA National Championships, four Frozen Four berths and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament in each full season (five total). Denver's national championship victory in 2024 was the program's 10th in its 75-year history and set the NCAA record for the most-ever by a college hockey team. At the time of his hire at DU, Carle was youngest head coach in NCAA Division I men's ice hockey at age 28. He became the fourth-youngest coach in history to win a D-I national title in 2022 (32 years, 5 months, 0 days) and is the youngest ever to win two national championships following the Pioneers' victory in 2024 (34 years, 5 months, 4 days). Assistant Coach
Dallas Ferguson is his eighth season as an assistant coach with the Pioneers in 2025-26 after being hired to the position on July 3, 2018. Ferguson helped Denver win both the 2022 and 2024 NCAA National Championships, as well as the 2024 NCHC Frozen Faceoff Championship, two Penrose Cups as NCHC regular-season champions (2021-22, 2022-23) and reach four Frozen Fours (2019, 2022, 2024, 2025). The Wainwright, Alberta, native's primary responsibilities on David Carle's staff include working with the defensemen and power play. Prior to coming to DU, Ferguson served as the head coach of the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League for the 2017-18 campaign after spending the previous nine seasons as the head coach of the University of Alaska Fairbanks. He led the Nanooks from 2008-2017 and guided the team to an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2010, the first in the program's D-I history. Assistant Coach
Ryan Massa is entering his third season as an assistant coach on the Pioneers hockey team after spending the two years prior on staff as a volunteer assistant coach. He was promoted to his current role on Sept. 5, 2023, and the 2025-26 campaign marks his fifth with Denver hockey. Massa, 35, first joined the DU coaching staff on Aug. 1, 2021 after spending the previous four years training goaltenders at various levels in the state of Colorado. Among his responsibilities is working with the Pioneers' goaltenders, assisting in on-ice skill development, providing scouting reports and assisting in managing the bench during games. In his time at Denver, Massa has been a part of the Pioneers' 2022 and 2024 NCAA Championship victories, as well as the 2024 NCHC Frozen Faceoff Championship and two Penrose Cup as NCHC regular-season champions (2021-22, 2022-23).

Assistant Coach
Tavis MacMillan is in his 11th season as an assistant coach with the Denver hockey team in 2025-26 and has helped the program win three NCAA Championships since being named to the position on May 27, 2015. MacMillan (MAC-millan), 55, has served on the coaching staff during Denver's 2017, 2022 and 2024 National Championship wins and helped the program reach six Frozen Four appearances, eight NCAA Tournament berths, win two NCHC Frozen Faceoff championships and three NCHC regular-season titles in over a decade with the team. Among his coaching duties on David Carle's staff include leading the program's recruiting effort and working with the forwards and penalty kill. Prior to joining DU, MacMillan served eight seasons as a scout for the NHL's Winnipeg Jets and 10 seasons as a coach for his alma mater, University of Alaska Fairbanks.
