Head Cross Country Coach / Assistant Track & Field Coach

Alexina Teubel was named UNI's head cross country coach in October 2022 after serving as a Panther assistant coach since 2016. Teubel is also a full-time assistant with UNI's track and field team primarily working with the middle distance, distance runners and long sprinters on the track. She helped the UNI men's track and field team repeat as outdoor track and field champions in spring 2019 and earned the Missouri Valley Conference men's outdoor track and field championship in 2018. During the 2017 cross country season, the UNI women finished second in the MVC championship. In 2016, she helped the UNI women to the MVC Cross Country Championships where they placed first overall. Teubel was a standout student-athlete at UNI, breaking school records in cross country and track as a two-time NCAA West Region qualifier and five-time All-Conference selection. She won both the 1,500 and 800 meters at the 2015 MVC Outdoor Championships and holds school records in the outdoor 1,500 meters, indoor 1,000 meters, mile, and 3,000 meters. In summer 2016, she competed professionally in the 3,000 meter steeplechase and was invited to the U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon. She made the final in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the USA T&F Championship in 2017, 2018 and 2019. Teubel graduated from UNI in 2015 with a double major in criminology and sociology.

Assistant Coach - Jumps

Jeff Coover is in his ninth season as a full-time coach at UNI in 2025-26, focusing on jumps and multi-events. During his time, athletes under Coover's tutelage have earned multiple Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) championships and all-conference honors. Coover is a three-time MVC Men's Indoor Coach of the Year award winner (2023, 2025, 2026) and was named the conference's men's outdoor Assistant Coach of the Year in 2022. Coover's athletes scored an astonishing 70.5 of the Panthers' 157.5 total points at the 2026 MVC Indoor Championships en route to UNI winning its 16th men's team title, with three of their four individual titles coming under his coaching. Before his time at UNI, Coover spent two years as a volunteer at his alma mater of Indiana University as he coached pole vaulters. Coover, a 2010 graduate of Indiana, was the 2009 Big Ten Champion in the vault as a Hoosier and was an All-American as well after earning fourth at the NCAA Indoor Championships. Coover is a four-time NCAA All-American for Indiana. He is a two-time bronze medalist at the U.S. Championships and has competed at 14 U.S. Championships. His personal record in the pole vault stands at 5.68 meters (18 feet, 8 inches). Coover, a native of La Jolla, Calif., earned a degree in environmental management from IU in 2010. Coover currently resides in Waterloo, Iowa with his wife Chelsea.
