Rowing Head Coach
While it was announced in 1996 that the University of Notre Dame would grant varsity status to the women's rowing team, the program did not fully begin until October 29, 1997, when Martin Stone became its first and only head coach. Five years later, Notre Dame earned its first trip to the NCAA Championship and has appeared in the national regatta nine times. The program has produced Olympic gold medal winners, world champions, Notre Dame valedictorians, doctors, scientists and engineers. It has established itself as one of the model programs in the country that embraces success on the water balanced with outstanding success in the classroom. Stone has built the program from a simple lightweight eight victory at the 1998 Head of the Rock in Rockford, Illinois, to a power that strung together 10 consecutive BIG EAST Conference rowing championships. Before his hiring at Notre Dame, Stone was the women's rowing coach at the Naval Academy from 1992 through 1996. He coached the Mids to an NCAA Division II National Championship by winning the Varsity Eight title at the Champion International Collegiate Rowing Championships, while also capturing wins in the First Novice Eight and Second Novice Eight competitions. Dorottya Bene, a 25-time Hungarian national champion, veteran of international rowing competition and NCAA Championship participant at Southern Cal, has joined the Notre Dame rowing staff as an assistant coach for the 2024-25 season. Bene was a member of the Southern Cal rowing team from 2014 through 2019, helping the Trojans to NCAA Championship appearances in the 1V8 (2015) and the 2V8 (2018). Throughout her time at SC she also competed internationally for Hungary, finishing sixth in the European Rowing Championships LX1x in 2014 and eighth at the 2015 Under-23 World Rowing Championships. Prior to her arrival at Notre Dame, Bene was competing with Hungary's LW2x at the 2024 European Rowing Championships qualification regatta, finishing in fifth place. After her graduation from SC in May of 2019, Bene joined the Trojan coaching staff as the third assistant coach from 2020-22, then moved up to second assistant coach and director of operations from 2022-23. She helped the Southern Cal 1V8+ and 1V4+ earn three top six finishes at the Pac-12 Championships from 2022-24. She also has spent time coaching in the Hungarian national program in 2016, 2017 and 2018. Born in Budapest, Hungary, Bene has one brother (Barnabas) and two sisters, Judit and Zsofia.

Jami Montesano joined the Notre Dame rowing coaching staff for the 2017-18 season after serving as a volunteer assistant at Louisville for the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons. Montesano began coaching after a successful collegiate rowing career at the University of Louisville, where she was named captain of the team during her senior season. In 2015, Montesano and her team achieved a fourth-place finish in their first appearance at the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship and a No. 17 national ranking. A native of Dayton, Ohio, Montesano contributed to Louisville's 17th-place team finish at the 2014 NCAA Championship as a member of the 1V8+. This performance followed a team sweep at the American Athletic Conference Championship where Montesano was a member of the title-winning Varsity 8+. In 2014, Montesano received First Team All-AAC honors, as well as being chosen as a Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Scholar Athlete (2014-2015). Montesano earned a bachelor's degree in exercise science (2015) and a master's in sports administration (2017) at the University of Louisville. In the summer of 2017, she was an assistant coach for the Penn AC rowing club where she helped the women's intermediate lightweight fours to first and fourth place finishes at the U.S. Rowing Club Nationals.

Kurt Butler, the director of operations, returned to Notre Dame in 2017-18 after serving as the Purdue women's club rowing coach for three seasons. Butler previously spent 11 years as the Notre Dame men's club crew team head coach while also serving as the operations specialist, boatman and rigger for the women's rowing team from 2008 through 2014. In addition to his operations duties, Butler will also serve as rigger and boatman. He will be responsible for the transportation, set up and maintenance of Notre Dame's competitive boats. While serving as the head coach of the ND Rowing Club, Butler also worked with the Western Reserve Rowing Association in Cleveland, Ohio, from 2001-05 and was the head coach for the recreational masters, novice and experienced junior program. He guided his competitive masters team to victories at Canadian Henley and Masters Nationals. Prior to his previous stint at Notre Dame, Butler served as the assistant crew coach at Connecticut College for the 2000-01 season and was the crew coach at Oswego State University in the fall of 1998. Butler began his coaching career in the fall of 1991 when he was appointed co-coach of the women's program at Marietta College during his senior year. Former University of Minnesota rowing student-athlete and assistant coach Teresa Logemann joined the University of Notre Dame rowing program as an assistant coach in October 2015. A graduate assistant for one season before serving as an assistant coach for over two seasons, Logemann mentored the first varsity four boat and served as the program's recruiting coordinator in addition to other duties during her time on the Minnesota staff. Logemann graduated from Minnesota in May 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts in architecture with a minor in French. She later earned a Master of Education in applied kinesiology & sports management in December 2014 while serving as a graduate assistant with the rowing program. As a Golden Gopher student-athlete, Logemann served as a team captain and earned three letters after beginning her career as a freshman walk on. Logemann earned the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award (2011) and was a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection (2008-09, 2009-10, 2010-11).
