Head Coach
A former CSUN All-American, Justin Johnson enters his seventh season as head coach of the CSUN Track & Field and Cross Country programs in 2025-26. In his six seasons leading the CSUN track & field teams, Johnson's athletes have earned six All-American awards with thrower Trey Knight earning three first-team selections and two national runner-up finishes in the weight throw. Under Johnson, the Matadors have claimed 17 total Big West outdoor individual titles and nine MPSF indoor individual titles. Johnson, a four-year letter winner at CSUN from 2004-08, still holds the school's heptathlon record (5,643) and ranks second in program history in the decathlon (7,473). An All-American in the heptathlon in 2008 and a three-time national championship participant in the decathlon, he finished as the Big West Conference's runner-up in the decathlon three times and was the 2007 Western Athletic Conference heptathlon champion. A coaching veteran at the Division I level, Johnson was the assistant coach in charge of sprints and hurdles at the University of Louisville (2014-19), where he coached numerous All-ACC performers. He began his coaching career at Tulane in 2009 and returned to CSUN in 2011 as an assistant coach. A native of Oxnard, Johnson graduated from CSUN with a Bachelor's Degree in Kinesiology in May of 2008.

Assistant Coach
Jason Zarb-Cousin enters his second season with CSUN in 2025-26, serving as an assistant coach to the track & field teams as distance coach and guiding the CSUN cross country programs. Zarb-Cousin's first season at CSUN included a pair of all-time top-10 track performances as Savannah Ganter registered the second-best time in school history in the 3000m-steeplechase (10:58.90) while Ami Jacobson recorded the fifth-best time in the indoor 5000m (17:52.31). Sakura Divecchio also reset the CSUN record book in the 4k during the cross country season (14:19.4) and Jacobson cracked the 6k top-10 list by reaching seventh place (21:47.0). Zarb-Cousin joined CSUN after spending the 2023 season at UC Santa Barbara. He worked closely with the Gauchos' distance runners last season, producing a top-29 West Region finisher. Also in his one season at UCSB, Zarb-Cousin helped the Gaucho men to a second-place finish at the Big West Cross Country Championship while Ethan Godsey finished third individually. Zarb-Cousin spent the previous seven years (2016-23) at Loyola Marymount, serving as head coach of the Lions' men's cross country and track & field programs from 2021-23. He would lead the LMU cross country team to one of its best seasons ever, helping his runners make a seven-second improvement on the team's best 8,000-meter time and a 66-second improvement in the 10,000 meters.
