Assistant Coach

Akilah Martin enters her first season as an assistant coach to the CSUN Women's Basketball team in 2024-25. Martin joins the Matadors after spending the 2023-24 season as an assistant coach at Saint Martin's University in Lacey, Wash. Previously, she had a successful two-year stint as an assistant coach with Biola University from 2021-23, where she helped the women's basketball team post its most wins over a two-year period since joining the PacWest Conference with a 32-25 overall record and 26-14 conference mark. Martin began her coaching career as an assistant at JSerra Catholic High School, spending two seasons with the Lions and helping lead the team to the CIF playoffs in their first year in Division 1A along with posting winning seasons in the Trinity League. In addition, Martin coached AAU basketball in Southern California with the Cal Sparks program. Martin has Big West experience as a collegiate basketball player with UC Riverside. She was a four-year letterwinner with the Highlanders, playing a total of 118 games with 28 starts as she totaled 515 points and 212 assists for her career. Martin would help lead UCR to a 23-win season along with a Big West regular season championship after going a perfect 16-0 in conference play. The Highlanders eventually participated in the WNIT that season. After her playing career, Martin spent two more seasons with the Highlanders as the program's director of operations from 2016-18. Dybala comes to CSUN after spending the last two seasons as the Director of Operations for the women's program at Long Beach State. In her time at LBSU, she helped the Beach to 31 wins, including a 12-8 Big West record in 2024-25. Long Beach earned a key win over first place Hawai'i in Manoa on December 7. Prior to her time at Long Beach State, Dybala had a successful Division I playing career as a student-athlete at both Eastern Washington and California Baptist. She played three years (2021-23) under Coach Ned at CBU, averaging 5.6 points and 2.8 rebounds per game, while totaling 61 steals and 24 blocks. The Melbourne, Australia native helped the Lancers capture the 2021 WAC Championship in her first season. In her final season at CBU, Dybala hit the game-winner versus Georgia Southern to help the Lancers advance to the WBI Championship game. She finished her collegiate career having played in 160 games to rank in the Top 5 in NCAA Division I games played. Also honored for her performance in the classroom, Dybala was a three-time WAC All-Academic Team selection with the Lancers.

During her time at CBU, she helped the Lancers finish the 2023-24 season with a 28-4 record. CBU went on the win the WAC Championship, and make its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament. She contributed to daily practices and served as the team’s videographer and photographer, capturing critical moments throughout the season. Battle's extensive playing and coaching experience adds a unique perspective to her current role. From 2020 to 2022, she transitioned to coaching, first as an Assistant Coach at Bacone College (2020-2021) in the NAIA and then at Bosque High School in Albuquerque, where she developed players and helped refine team strategies. A former standout player at Pepperdine University from 2018-20, Battle excelled under head coach Delisha Milton-Jones. During her junior season, she ranked third on the team in scoring, averaging 8.5 points per game, and led the team in three-pointers with 47. She helped the Waves to a 22-12 record in the 2018-19 season and earned WCC Commissioner’s Honor Roll honors, along with recognition as a Pepperdine Scholar-Athlete. While on the Gaucho bench, UCSB reached the Big West Championship game twice in 2017 and 2023. Fripp would help coach the Gauchos to 121 wins in his nine seasons including a 78-75 Big West record over that span while he coached 19 All-Big West selections in his tenure. Prior to his time at UCSB, Fripp was the head girls basketball coach for 10 years at St. Mary's College High School in Berkeley, Calif. In his time with the Panthers, he amassed a 276-72 record and .793 winning percentage. His teams posted top-30 finishes in the state a total of seven times. Three of his teams finished with over 30 wins with his 2010 team tallying a 31-4 record before being crowned the NorCal Champions and finishing second overall in the California State's Division IV. Fripp's teams were six-time league champions, five-time North Coast Section Champions, and a two-time CIF State Champion runner-up. To acknowledge his accomplishments, Fripp was named the 2010 ANG Newspapers East Bay Coach of the Year. In addition to his high school coaching, Fripp also coached the East Bay Xplosion Basketball Club since 2004 as an assistant coach. As a player, Fripp earned a four-year scholarship to play basketball at Brigham Young University in Hawai'i. He graduated from St. Mary's College High School in the class of 1996.
