The 2021-22 season will be the seventh with Gabe Winkler in charge of the Oregon State men’s rowing program. Winkler was formally hired as the Oregon State head men’s rowing coach August 21, 2015 following the 2014-15 season, in which he filled the position on an interim basis. In his first season in charge along the banks of the Willamette River, Winkler directed his crews to a third place team finish at Pac-12 Championships and a return to the Intercollegiate Rowing Association National Championships. Three out of four crews – Second Varsity 8, Third Varsity 8 and Novice 8 – raced to bronze medals at the conference regatta. Winkler’s 2015-16 charges once again turned in a strong performance at Pac-12 Championships with the 3V8 and N8 securing bronze medals. Three crews qualified to IRA Championships with the 3V8 taking first in the Third Final to finish 13th overall. A strong group of newcomers joined the program making a strong impression and are expected to be good building blocks for the future. In 2016-17, the Beavers earned a third-place team finish at Pac-12 Championships. OSU’s Varsity 8 concluded the season with a 20th place finish at IRAs. In the fall, the Varsity 4+ turned in a sixth-place finish at the Head of the Charles, second among collegiate crews. Winkler’s rowers also set a school-record placing 16 student-athletes on the Pac-12 All-Academic team. The 2017-18 campaign included several impressive performances for the Beavers including a fourth-place finish

Director of Rowing

Michael Eichler was announced as the head coach of Oregon State women’s rowing on July 2, 2024, bringing more than a decade of experience to the team and having previously spent seven seasons as a member of the Beavers' coaching staff. In his first season as head coach, Eichler led the team to its first ever conference championship in dominant fashion, winning every single race across a two-day regatta to finish with 54 total points, which was the maximum number a team could win. Eichler’s Beavs swept the All-West Coast Conference Awards, which featured Rhianna Loughnan earning Rower of the Year, Taylor Denger as Coxswain of the Year, and freshman Linda Weitmann winning Newcomer of the Year. Coming off the heels of a strong regular season that featured a run of four-consecutive weeks with ranked wins for the 1V8 and a total of 15 different individual boat victories, which included a dominant performance at Washington State where OSU won six of seven total races, Eichler was named West Coast Conference Coach of the Year and added CRCA Region 5 Coach of the Year honors while his staff was named Regional Staff of the Year. He originally joined the program in 2017 as an assistant coach and was elevated to associate head coach in September of 2022, also serving as the program's recruiting coordinator for each of his seven seasons. Under his tutelage, the second varsity eight recorded fourth place finishes in back-to-back Pac-12 Championships, while compiling a 24-7 win record in 2
