Ernst joined the Beaver staff in August of 2022, coming to Oregon State after spending the 2021-22 campaign at Ohio State, where she served as boatrigger and volunteer assistant coach. In that role she assisted with regatta operations, and helped maintain and repair equipment, amongst numerous other duties. Prior to her time with the Buckeyes, she worked for both Iowa and Wisconsin, serving roles both in coaching an operations. "Abby's experience as an athlete at two exceptional rowing programs combined with her work experience in a spectrum of roles at three Big Ten institutions that have a history of success on the national stage will provide perspective and new ideas to the program," said head coach Kate Maxim. As an athlete, Ernst was a two-time bronze medalist at the NCAA Championships (2015; 2V8, 2017;1V4) and a 2017 Henley Royal Regatta qualifier while competing for Washington (2013-2016) and Ohio State (2016-2017). She was a member of the Buckeye’s Leadership Team and a Big Ten sportsmanship honoree in 2017. Ernst earned a Bachelor of Arts in Art History from The Ohio State University (2018) and a Masters in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis from the University of Wisconsin (2020).

Her success on the water included an invitation to the US Rowing U23 Selection Development Camp in 2023, where she was one of 20 athletes across all NCAA schools who trained for 30-plus hours a week before placing third in the age division at Summer Nationals. Academically, Hunsberger was a member of the Dean’s List in the Fall of 2024 and was named Academic All-Big Ten in 2025, earning the IU Athletics Academic Achievement Award, graduating with her bachelor’s in public health with a minor in coaching in May of 2025. Outside the classroom, she participated in the Academy of Future Coaches, engaging in weekly seminars aimed at teaching the next generation of coaches and providing opportunities to connect and learn from members of the rowing community.

He returned to OSU in 2013 as Director of Sports Performance and was later promoted to Associate Athletic Director. His career also includes stints with the Chicago Bulls and Bradley University. A 1993 graduate of the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, Macy also earned his MBA from Oregon State University in 2025. A former elite weightlifter, he captured two USA Weightlifting National Championships, was a four-year resident athlete at the U.S. Olympic Training Center, and placed 13th at the 1993 World Championships. Macy and his wife, Barb, have two children: son Will, an Oregon State graduate who works in education, and daughter Claire, a former college soccer player and graduate of Quincy University, who now serves as a graduate assistant strength coach at the University of Georgia.
